George Mitchell

Craggy-faced American character actor who always looked older than his years. Came to the screen after acting on stage in New York. From the 1950's, played an assortment of law enforcers and anything from Indian chiefs ('Sitting Bull' in "The Time Tunnel" (1966)) to homicidal hen-pecked husbands ("Land of the Giants" (1968).

Senator from 1980-1995, and from 2004 Chairman of the Walt Disney Company

When Mitchell left the Senate in 1995, then President Bill Clinton named him special envoy to Northern Ireland where, over a period of three years, he presided over the Northern Ireland peace process that ultimately produced the Good Friday Agreement that was signed by the British and Irish governments.

In December 2007, he came out with the Mitchell Report, an investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. Among the players named in the report were Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Todd Pratt and David Justice.
