Clint Ritchie Timeline
1888
When Clint Buchanan found himself thrown back 100 years in time to Buchanan City, 1888, Clint Ritchie transported 6 of his own horses to the Old Tucson location. The white horse he was seen riding in the storyline was his own "Bunny," while "Okie Dokie" portrayed Clint Buchanan's horse, "Okie."1968
"One Life to Live" (1968) named Clint Buchanan's Arizona ranch "Happy Horse Ranch" because that was the name of Clint Ritchie's very real California spread.1968
When Clint auditioned for "One Life to Live" (1968) in 1979, his character was named "Chris Logan". After meeting and deciding to cast Clint, the casting director called and asked if he would mind if they changed the character's name to Clint. He said he didn't. Later, the character's last name was changed to Buchanan.1980
In 1980, Clint purchased his beloved "Happy Horse Ranch," situated near Grass Valley, California, in large part because it is not far from the site of the annual Tevis Cup 100 mile endurance horse race which originates in Squaw Valley and concludes in Auburn, California.1993
He was crushed and seriously injured by a tractor, May 10, 1993.1993
He was off the show for several months after the tractor he was riding crashed into a tree stump on his ranch on May 10, 1993. Tossed from the vehicle and knocked to the ground, he suffered broken bones (including his ribs) and a collapsed lung when the vehicle proceeded to run over him.2009
In late January 2009, Ritchie had surgery to implant a pacemaker. Although the surgery was successful, a blood clot traveled to his brain, resulting in a massive stroke. He died a few days later at about 4:00 a.m. on January 31, 2009. He was 70.
