Teamed with his brother, Scott "Hog" Irwin, as the Longriders in the AWA. Left the AWA when Scott died of a brain aneurysm in 1987. Reappeared two years later on NWA World Championship Wrestling.1989
In 1989, was nominated for four Tony Awards for "Largely New York": as author of a Best Play nominee, Best Actor (Play), Best Director (Play) and, with collaborator Kimi Okada, Best Choreographer. In 1999, his show "Fool Moon" won a Special Tony Award for Live Theatrical Presentation.1999
Selected for the International Clown Hall Of Fame, and was inducted August 7, 1999.2005
Won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play, for his performance as George in 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'.
